Yufeng Medical Vibration Training Device Reconfirms Clinical Efficacy: Research on Motor Function Improvement in Children with Cerebral Palsy Published in BMJ Open

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder in childhood, characterized predominantly by persistent motor dysfunction. Many children with cerebral palsy suffer from abnormal muscle tone, poor balance, walking difficulties and other impairments, which severely compromise their daily living and social participation. Although conventional rehabilitation therapy yields therapeutic benefits, it is often subject to certain limitations.

Recently, a high-quality clinical study has delivered encouraging findings.
The study protocol has been officially published in BMJ Open, a well-known international medical journal affiliated with the British Medical Journal. Rigorous scientific design aims to seek the most reliable answers

This study was jointly conducted by Lanzhou Center for Disability Care, Employment and Rehabilitation and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and other institutions, designed as a single-centre, two-arm randomised controlled trial.
The study plans to enrol 40 children with cerebral palsy aged 6 to 17 years (including spastic hemiplegia, spastic diplegia and ataxic cerebral palsy, classified as GMFCS Levels I–III). The children will be randomly allocated into two groups:
Intervention Group: Conventional rehabilitation therapy plus Whole-Body Vibration Therapy (WBVT)
Control Group: Conventional rehabilitation therapy only
The whole intervention period lasts 12 weeks, with treatment administered 3 times weekly.
What changes will be observed in the children after 12 weeks?
Researchers will conduct comprehensive assessments at three time points: baseline (prior to intervention initiation), Week 6 and Week 12.
The primary outcome measure is the total score of the Gross Motor Function Measure-88 (GMFM-88), the gold standard for evaluating motor ability in children with cerebral palsy. In addition, detailed assessments will be performed, including muscle tone (Modified Ashworth Scale), balance capacity (Pediatric Balance Scale), walking endurance (6-Minute Walk Test), walking speed (10-Metre Walk Test), and quality of life (Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory).
Yufeng Medical Vibration Training Device
According to the study protocol published in BMJ Open, the whole-body vibration training equipment adopted in this research is explicitly the Y-V3 Vibration Training Device manufactured by Zhengzhou Yufeng Medical Technology Co., Ltd.
The device features the following technical characteristics:
Its alternating left-right vibration design simulates the alternating pelvic tilt pattern during natural human walking.
When the vibration frequency exceeds 12 Hz, voluntary muscle contraction transitions into physiological stretch reflex. This mechanism facilitates better coordination among muscle groups and activates all muscle groups from the distal lower extremities up to the trunk.
The WBVT protocol adopted in the study is specified as follows:
3 minutes of vibration stimulation followed by 3 minutes of rest, repeated 3 times, with a total duration of 18 minutes. Static standing posture with 10 Hz frequency and 2 mm amplitude is adopted in the first 4 weeks. Parameters are then gradually progressed to 12–18 Hz and 2–4 mm, incorporating dynamic movements such as deep squatting and knee-bend squatting with trunk rotation.

Why does this study deserve attention?


Existing studies investigating WBVT for children with cerebral palsy commonly suffer from limitations including small sample sizes, inconsistent intervention protocols, and substantial heterogeneity among participants. This study addresses these shortcomings precisely:
Adequate sample size
The sample of 40 participants represents a relatively large cohort among comparable studies.
Standardised protocol
Clear specifications are defined for vibration frequency, amplitude, body posture and treatment duration.
Stratified randomisation
Stratified randomisation based on GMFCS levels ensures balanced severity between the two groups.
Assessor blinding
Assessors remain unaware of group allocation to minimise bias to the greatest extent possible.
